Dar Williams
12/06/05
I bought the new Dar Williams album on iTunes recently. Tonight, when I was moving the plants in, the iPod hit me with this song. A powerful message, and in the great American Folk tradition, at just the right time. "For every five tanks, plant a sentimental story."

Get Your Bootleg On
6/3/05
The Get Your Bootleg On Site is fun. Mash-ups and bootlegs on parade. I found some good stuff, but it can take a while to sort through all the techno-disco-dance remixes to find the really funny or good ones.

3hive
5/21/05
"3hive is a growing jukebox of MP3s .... You won't find excerpts, streams ... or any format other than the good, old-fashioned MP3... link directly to the official label and artist websites...you won't have to worry about the RIAA breathing down your neck." Lots of good stuff for free, like Calexico, Camper Van, Yo La Tengo, Neko Case, Spoon, and tons and tons more

Big Boys (iTunes)
5/16/05
The Big Boys started out as one of the best punk bands ever, and kept growing musically to the end. If I had to pick, I guess The Fat Elvis (iTunes) compilation edges out the Skinny Elvis (iTunes). Sound On Sound is great Big Boys site. I also greatly enjoyed singer Biscuit's (RIP) later projects, Swine King (iTunes) and Cargo Cult (iTunes) and like what I've heard from Guitarist Tim Kerr but I haven't lived long enough to have heard everything.

Moonlight Towers (iTunes)
5/16/05
Moonlight Towers are great and getting better with each show. Go to their web site to download some free MP3's and listen to Sparks Will Fly. They have a "classic" rock thing going on, without being "retro" anything. You can get their first LP on (iTunes)

K. McCarty (iTunes)
5/15/05
Kathy McCarty has a new web site and a really good new album out, some of the songs are classic Glass Eye from the early 90's. Also new is the re-release of the awesome Daniel Johnston covers album, Dead Dog's Eyeball. (iTunes)
